Building Dreams, Brick by Brick
A Little About This Year’s Fundraiser Project
This initiative was initially championed by Amar, a member of our Steveston community and an advocate for poverty-relief efforts in Sri Lanka. For over a dozen years, Amar had been working with the Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society to build homes and improve the living conditions of impoverished families in numerous countries, most recently in Sri Lanka.
To support this great initiative, The Arts Connection (The Arts Conservatory’s Parent Company) will be directing its fundraising efforts from now until December 2022 towards supporting this worthwhile and life-altering project. Working in partnership with Amar and her direct Sri Lankan contact, Anoma, we hope to recruit enough funds to support two families specially selected by Anoma.
What is the goal?
Our goal is to build their homes, furnish them and equip these families with the means to support their livelihoods in the long run. We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the two families we will be helping to “build their dreams”!
Who are we supporting?
Project 1:
Vishmika (Mother), Rajith (dad) and Koshan (Son). The husband, Rajith, was in the army and became permanently disabled and is unable to provide for their family. The mother, Vishmika, works very hard from home to make homemade carpets through her own sewing machine.
Project 2:
A family of three, a father named Sarath and two children, whose wife died of ovarian cancer.
