FAQ

My child has no dance experience, which class would be suitable for her/him?

We offer a wide range of classes in many different styles and base enrollment on age as well as experience/skill level. If your child is under the age of 7, we can likely find a class suitable for them based on their birthdate. However, if your child is 8 years or older, we may ask to arrange an assessment or trial lesson in order to ensure we find the right fit before you register.

What equipment do I need to purchase for dance?

All dance disciplines have a dress code and require the parents to purchase these items. All students are required to purchase the appropriate footwear based on their dance discipline. They can purchase the majority of these items with us. This includes for example leotards, slippers, and mandatory jackets for competitive students as they are required to purchase a team jacket from the arts conservatory. Ballet Students are required to purchase an exercise ball.

Can my child do a drop-in or trial lesson?

Yes – we offer new students the opportunity to attend a free trial class, subject to availability and at the teacher’s discretion. Only one trial class is allowed (per style). This allows the student to experience the class and ensure it is a good fit prior to registration. If you are registering before the dance season begins, we may be able to arrange a private assessment instead. Contact our Admissions Coordinator for more information.

My child has a few years of experience in ballet, which level should they take?

This will depend on their age and where they’ve been training. If your child is 5 years old and has been taking ballet from the age of 3, we can confidently recommend placing them with the 5-year-old class. If your child is 8 years old or older, we will need to know more about their previous training before recommending a level. We follow the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus and while there is a general recommendation for average age per grade, there are some circumstances where we may put a dancer with students older or younger than they are in order to give them the best-suited level of training possible.
